Manu

With limited time and a full walter, a scintillanting rainforest option in this arca is Manu Wildlife Center, two hours downstream from Boca Manu. The Wildlife Center, just outside the Manu Biosphere reserve, is in a large area of privately owned rainforest with superb wildlife viewing. There area 48 Km. (30 miles) of trails, and some unique features, such as the nearby Blanquillo clay lick, where noisy flocks of parrots and macaws gather to ingest minerals (a floating hide takes you close to the birds), and a mudhule where tapirs (seldom sigthted elsewhere), are nightly visitors. Plans are afoot here to build the worlds longest rainforest canopy walkway (the only one in this region) for treetop viewing. Access for this short visit is by light aircraft, wich explains the expense.
Mnau Biosphere reserve is also quite expensive, but one-way road-and-river options make it cheaper, and, at five to mine days, longer. Most trips include camping and lodges. The road trip from Cusco is spectacular. Two other recommended travel companies you might try are:

Puerto Maldonado and the Tambopata

Starting out from the sleepy lowland town of Puerto Maldonado, you will find lots of eco-lodges on the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers. Two nature reserves, the Bahuaja – Sonene and Tambopata – Candamo, combine to form a huge slice of pristine territory east and south of these two rivers. The main rivers are a bit more developed, with farms, villages and traffic. Tour programs typically last three, four, or five days. Generally, the further from Puerto Maldonado you are, the more pristine the natural surroundings, the more rustic the accommodation, and the more costly the services. All lodges have a trail network for forest walks, and most have access to an oxbow lake an important rainforest habitat.
The following lodges are listed in an away – from – Puerto Maldonado order: Sandoval Lake Lodge – the best of those near Puerto Maldonado. With comfortable accommodation and wildlife viewing from the lodge; on a beautiful oxbow lake, with lots of birds, and monkeys, some giant otters, and not too much walking. InkaNatura Travel.
