TRAIN OPERATION TO AGUAS CALIENTES WILL RESTART ON MARCH 29th BUT MACHU PICCHU INCA CITADEL WILL OPEN ON APRIL 1ST
Dear friends,
Just some hours ago Peru Rail, the company who manages and operates the train service from Cusco to Aguas Calientes, informed that the train service will be restarting its operation from March 29th in two different stages described below:
Stage I: From March 29th, 2010
- The operation is effected only with cars such AUTOVAGON.
- The Backpacker train services will not be available regarding some technical and operations restrictions due to many parts of the railroad had to be rebuilt.
- Hiram Bingham service will not be available during this time.
- PERURAIL will contact tour operators in order to relocate the Backpacker bookings to available seats on AUTOVAGON services at the price that corresponds to the time available.
- Bimodal services (bus + train) from Cusco and Ollantaytambo with transfer to Piscacucho (km 82) will be offered.
Stage II: From May 01st (To be reconfirmed)
- Autovagon and Backpackers services will be available.
- In the next days Peru Rail will inform the possibility to set up a special service which can be used as an alternative luxury train.
- Bimodal services (bus + train) from Cusco and Ollantaytambo with transfer to Piscacucho (km 82) will be offered.
Important note: The bus trip from Ollanta to Piscacucho is about 50 minutes and the train trip from Piscacucho to Aguas Calientes is about 1 hour and 21 minutes.
